Chinese Red Cross Website Hacked To Steal Relief Funds
May 22, 2008 – 3:18 pmHackers have stooped to the lowest of low recently by hacking the Chinese Red Cross Website in an attempt to steal earthquake relief donations. This is by far morally one the worst things a hacker can do. With all of the famine and destruction in China from the recent earthquakes and aftershocks the relief efforts are faced with another obstacle. This time it is a technical issue where hackers have hacked into the Red Cross website for China trying to steal the funds that people have donated to help the survivors of this devastating natural disaster.
In America, we are faced with all types of security breaches on banking, social networking, corporate and personal websites. Many people could not begin to imagine someone being so low as to steal the funds that were collected to assist those who have lost their loved-ones.
Recently it was verified by the Ministry of Public Security that a section of the official Red Cross website was illegally hacked. It seems the criminal or criminals gained access to a section of the Red Cross site that held the accounts set up for the Chinese earthquake relief funds and donations. Officials have warned citizens who wish to make donations to verify account numbers and use references when they make the donations. The hacker was identified as Li Bujiu, who opened fraudulent bank accounts to steal the funding from the Red Cross website.
Most of us have read about or witnessed hackers breaching websites and many times action was taken immediately. This case is very similar only it strikes many of us as being something very in-humane. This is a sure way of this criminal getting a free ticket on a rocket straight to hell for his actions, figuratively speaking. We can all do our part by being mindful of any recent reports or warnings of hacked websites by adhering to them when accessing websites that have been compromised. Staying in-the-know helps us all keep one foot on solid ground instead of falling into the hackers pit of mass destruction.
